"The Indie Scene 1980" .I forgot about this particular jem.They were such a good band with classics like "Life in the Gladhouse" .Thought I'd share this one with those that might be unfamiliar with the exception of "Melt With You" .Know anymore I might be unaware of ? I felt Modern English went through 3 phases. First, their early material on 4AD, then on to After The Snow and Ricochet Days, which I felt went very well together. Then, their releases after that had a more commercial feel to them. Stop Start and Pillow L

Everyone remembers I Melt With You, and I realize it is a classic track from that period, but for me, at least 3-4 tracks off of Ricochet Days blow that track away (Hands Across The Sea, Blue Wave, Rainbow's End, Spinning Me Round are superb, absolutely s

I agree with Grunch about their early material--it's all good ! Ricochet Days is fantastic along with Mesh & Lace.I'm trying to get my internet provider to rectify the problem regarding my web page so I ca re-post the track "Gathering Dust" .

Yep, have to agree with Grunch about Ricochet Days. I could never fathom why the critics bashed that album. To me, it was superior to After The Snow, which is impressive as well.

Just goes to show that you cannot rely on critics!

omg, Grunch, I had forgotten about Modern Eng's early 4AD stuff, and how they were on This Mortal Coil's 1st album. That is an AMAZING album. I had completely lost that memory. Now, you've made me want to dig it out and give it a listen.

I was very fortunate to see them here in Birmingham Alabama back in '85 at a very small college arena and I must say that they were very tight,clear, and as concise as a band could ever be live ! Plus, they play'ed many of their early tunes that made
