What song do you think you've heard the most...

number of times, in total, in your life?

Not strictly a new wave question, necessarily, but I think for most of us it would be a new wave song.

I spent a bit of time discussing this with Lady OWAU, mulling over the necessary characteristics:
1. I had to, obviously, really like it.
2. Friends had to like it, I don't think something only I liked and listened to alone in my bedroom would ultimately gather enough listens.
3. Because I was the ages of 10-19 in the 80's, my mom and stepdad had to like it. It could be played in the house with them around, in the car, etc. Even better if they owned a copy of the album it was on.
4. It had to be popular enough, obviously, to be heard on the radio and MTV, and it had to be appealing to a wide range of radio formats, such as Top 40, rock, college, etc.
5. It had to be not so "edgy" that it can still be often heard today in stores, restaurants, and offices, and still be played regularly on terrible but popular "Great hits of the 70's, 80's,90's, and today" radio stations that people who own only 15 CDs listen to.

My verdict, after much mulling:
Tempted, by Squeeze

Please give careful thought before weighing in! Although if you're like me, the mere mention of a question like this sends me to the record collection for reflection and debate, all else forgotten for hours.

"Stairway to Heaven", no question. I even help out with my town's middle school dances. Guess what song they end every freakin night with? Yup!...and the kids love it. The parents show up wondering what the hell kinda time warp they stepped through.

As far as a song that I have heard the most, unwillingly....that title probably belongs to "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston. And yes I know that doesn't appeal to th

I would say it was a toss up between "Sweet Dreams (Are MAde of This)" by the Eurythmics and "Whip It" by Devo.

Incidentally, listening to DM's Personal Jesus could make me barf doritos chunks if I'm forced to listen to even a nano second of it. It makes me twitch slightly to see that song title under my name.
Must post more to rid myself of the title.
