"Better Watch Out For The Skin Deep"

Postby devildog » Tue Sep 21, 2004 11:26 am

Does anyone know what this song implies? The song is "Skin Deep" from the Aural Sculpture lp by the Stranglers. I am not sure if the video provides any clues either. I really like the song but it always left me wondering about it's meaning.

BTW, a friend back in college would substitute "Deep" with "Flute" and it was funny to hear him sing it, especially after a few beers.[:D]

I'd always assumed that the message was "beware of grasping, superficial people" . . . . . ?

Since beauty is only skin deep, I assumed it meant to beware of pretty women (or men) who are pretty on the outside only.

Did anyone else buy the UK 45 of this song to get the free tattoo transfer that came with it? [:)]

I will never forget this song; the video was on MTV when my then-girlfriend broke up with me.

No idea what it means. I'll take "Bring on the Nubiles" any day.
