New Wave: Sub genres and categories

The new wave genre has always appealed to me because of its number one characteristic… its diversity. New wave had so many sub categories that it attracted so many different appreciators of the music form. Geographically speaking, here in the south it seemed that these were the sub categories that were present. [Contained in brackets are examples]

Pop [ABC, B52’s, Aha]

Mod [The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Mighty Lemon Drops]

Dance[New Order, Book of Love, Information Society]

Goth [The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Siousxi and the Banshees]

Rock [The Cult, Fields of the Nephilum, Flesh for Lulu]

Glam [Gene love Jezebel, Animotion, Dead or Alive]

Industrial [Ministry, Front 242, Skinny Puppy]

I know people can see this list and add a dozen plus bands in each category and add a couple of categories of their own. There were bands that crossed over to other sub categories and others you just couldn’t pin down into one specified area. The reason for this post is this: I want to see what was the new wave movement like in your neck of the woods and what were the bands prevalent in the genre?
