Cover art preservation ... a lost art?

I just wanted to know if anyone here is interested in archiving obscure or hard to find cover art.

When I visit a band discography on the web, it usually contains small, poorly scanned and damaged picture sleeves and cover art.

This also seems to carry over in liner notes with illustrated discographies for reissued CDs.

I find these things very disappointing to view.

At my daytime job i retouch and restore commercially photographed products and in my spare time I archive cover art using the same techniques.

Sometimes I wonder why an official band's website or reissue CD would have such mediocre imagery compared to the rest of their professionally made product.
