I don't know how many people still listen to this German synth band. They had hits Love is a Shield and Great Commandment in late 80's.

But it looks like they're still making some great melodic Synthpop, even better than Depeche Mode I think. Recently put out an album too.

Great stuff, wish they were more popular here in US. Germans rule!

Sensor is a fantastic album (2003). They've updated their sound quite a bit. I still enjoy them and listen every so often. That Smiling Face will always be one of my favorite extended dance tracks of the 80's.

I tend to like their more symphonic tracks with little to no lyrics such as "Pompeij" and "Your Skinhead is the Dream."

I think I've also got the 12" of "The Great Commandment" floating around somewhere which is good too, I'm suprised no one has mentioned "Stranger Thoughts" which is also really good. Hopefully I'm not confusing them with Cetu Javu, which I've done in the past, I'm not at home so can't check.

Somehow I always get those two bands mixed up, I do the same thing with Michael Keaton and Kevin Costner for some reason....

Regarding early Camouflage (1988, 1989) I personally liked their single and extended versions better than the originals on "Voices And Images". Talking specifically about "The Great Commandment", "Neighbours" and "Strangers Thoughts". The singles of all three just sound more complete and fully-realized to me. I especially like the extended versions of "Neighbours" and "Strangers Thoughts". "That Smiling Face" will always be my favorite Camouflage song (original version and German Band Version are my favorite mixes) and I'm so proud that (only) the U.S. saw fit to release it as a single back in the day hehehe. Most of their singles are fairly difficult or, at the very least, costly to obtain. Has taken me over 10 years to finally get the "The Great Commandment" (German and U.S. Promo CD singles), "Neighbours" and "Strangers Thoughts" (German CD singles) and "That Smiling Face" (US Promo CD single). Of course I'll most likely and regretably be parting with them soon to get caught up on bills! [:(] Another eBay adventure looms in the near future for me....

BTW someone had mentioned Camouflage's "Kling Klang" being a cover of the Kraftwerk song of the same name. That's wrong, though not entirely off the mark. Camouflage's version was written and recorded by the band in 1989 in homage to Kraftwerk. It certainly sounds like it could have been a Kraftwerk song though! It's fantastic and appears on the "One Find Day" single.

I also agree that "I Can't Feel You", "Motif Sky" and "The Pleasure Remains" (from the last couple albums) are all superb and highly recommended, as are the William Orbit remix of "Love Is A Shield" and the dreamy "Heaven (I Want You)".

Love this band. Images and Words is a fantastic album.

I play "The Great Commandment" and "Love is a Shield" regularly at my gigs.
