Whenever I think of classic early-mid 80's techno the first song that usually comes to mind is Trans-X's Living On Video. Admittedly the video is a bit crappy but no matter how goofy the song is it remains a classic piece of synth-pop for many people. Anyway, how would you describe their music? Was it new wave synth-pop, italo disco, electro, classic techno etc. ?

Both Rational Youth and Trans-X have CD's very worth having if you're a synthpop/new wave fan. I only discovered Rational Youth's 1983 "Cold War Night Life" a couple years ago and it's fantastic. EMI Canada issued a sweet remastered CD of it in 1997 complete with 3 extra tracks. "Saturdays In Silesia" is far and away my favorite, but there were several top quality tracks. I also have their 1996 "All Our Saturdays (1981-1986)" CD which has several unreleased single and extended mixes.

I got the Unidisc CD re-issues of Trans-X's "Living On Video" and "On My Own" albums just a few years ago as well and was completely taken by surprise at how good they were! Both CD's are chock full of bonus tracks including 12" versions and unreleased stuff including a great cover of Men Without Hats' "Safety Dance". Highlly recommended.

Trans-X also released a new CD-single for "Living On Video" in 2006 that contains some kickass mixes!! The same year a band called Lazard released a CD-single of their own cover of "Living On Video" that is also quite good.

Looks like only on a couple of compilations in Europe.

"All Of Our Saturdays", I tried ordering that, at the same time as "Cold War Night Life", and was told it was unavailable.

British hit the nail on the head. I think of this song & video as ultimates in 80s cliche. I love it!
