Oblivious to........

OK--Any band or artist that you were TOTALLY oblivious to back in the days that mattered? Bands that any punk/new wave fanatic should be ashamed to say they were oblivious to? Fess up!! Who did you know next to nothing about till this board came along???? And I'm not talking about bands that many dont know-but--bands/artists that we ALL know.

Mine--embarressed to say--Gang of Four--yeah--I liked Man In Uniform back in the day , but, for some reason was NEVER inspired to pick anything up by them. Yep--Embarrassing--as a matter od fact I went years loving Damaged Goods and never realized it was them!!

Now fess up--who was yours....?

I'll echo KYYX and Randy and say Gang of Four. I'd heard "Uniform," of course, but how could I have missed the entire "Entertainment" album? In our defense, KYYX, I don't think Seattle radio ever played anything except "Uniform."

Gang of Four for me as well. As mentioned above, I only heard "Is It Love" and "I Love A Man In Uniform" on Seattle radio. I picked up the mid-90's reissue of Entertainment last year and loved it so much that I snagged a used copy of the newer Rhino newer reissue last week.

Add me to the list of folks who also discovered The Chameleons, The Sound, APB, among others here. Especially the Chameleons!

Also, if I can mention just one record, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me by the Cure has been on top of my playlist recently, even though I bought the lp back in the day and didn't like it much at all then. I love the layered guitar work on it...

Surprised to see Gang of Four mentioned so often--dont feel so stupid now. I Am shocked with the amount of mention for the CS Angelas and Chameleons though.

For me I'd have to say the awesome bands such as Go West, Modern Talking, The Sinceros, and Rick Nelson. To think if I had never come here I might not have learned about such New Wave giants.

Actualy I still don't know jack crap about Gang of Four.

The big one that I seemed to have really missed on (at least in the context of this board) is Depeche Mode.

Really, I remember them vaguely for "People are People" and a few years later for the video for "Personal Jesus", but really not much inbetween (or afterwards for that matter). Aside from finding a few of their fans pretentious, they just didn't make an impression (and got zip in the way of airplay in my neck of the woods).

On the plus side I followed Gang of Four from the Yellow EP on. [:I]

I'd have to say like many others here, The Chameleons. I have the Stange Times lp, but beyond that, never was really interested in them. I've recently downloaded "In Shreds" and "Don't Fall".

Camouflage and Spoons are two bands I'd never heard of before coming to this site. I'll be negative for a moment and say I don't like either.

One obscure mention. I heard "Velvet Underground " by Televison Personalities and thought they were a new band until looking them up on AMG.

Never a huge Depeche Mode fan either--other than their hits , I still dont know most of their stuff. Always thought their stuff was OK, but not good enough to purchase.

Me too, never cared much for them beyond 3 or 4 songs. What I've heard has been too dour and dirge-like for me.

I still don't know who The Sound are, so I guess I'd have to say them!

Secession and (A Clan of) Xymox seem to be held in high regard here. Didn't know who the former were until I came here, and was only vaguely familiar with the latter. Hell, I wasn't even familiar with the latter's Hot 100 hit.
