Any fans out there? Paul was on the Jim Rome show yesterday and sounded really cool. Great Minn. band. I hear a ton of them every time I hear the Goo Goo Dolls.

I have always been a fan of their early stuff:Sorry Ma,Stinks,Hootenenny,and Let it be !

Yeah, in terms of giving a push to the whole independent label movement, "Let it Be" was one of the finest albums of its time. "I Will Dare" is a great song.

That said, the WB-released "Alex Chilton" is just an incredible piece of pop music. And I love Paul's "Dyslexic Heart" off the "Singles" soundtrack (which I suppose is 90s. Oops)

Westerberg continues to make great music and I heard Stinson's CD isn't too bad either. The problem (and it's really not a problem) is Paul has been making too much music these days. I've haven't finished giving enough time to the last one when the next one (and sometimes two) come along. I Think he's released 5 CD's in the last two and a half years.

Goo Goo Gaa Gaa Dolls will never be in the same league as the Replacements.

I was gonna start a thread about these largely unheralded yet extremely talented non conformist rude boy punkers from Minneapolis.

BTW: Ollie, why haven't you weighed in on this one?

I have a special soft spot for their unwittingly? (Tony Orlandoesque) sounding pop nugget 'I Can't Hardly Wait' FABULOUS STUFF IMO

And I too love Paul Westerburgs 'Dyslexic Heart' from the 'Singles' movie soundtrack.

Let It Be is brilliant. After owning it for over twenty years, I still keep it in regular rotation. However, the other Replacements' albums have never hit me as hard as Let It Be. I'm listening to Unsatisfied right now. The angst and frustration in Westerberg's voice always gives me chills.

I have no idea what came after Don't Tell a Soul. Anything I shouldn't miss??

They were one of my favorite bands of the early 90's - I didn't listen to them when they were new & discovered them much later.

Only that [i]All Shook Down[/i] was a disappointment when it was released. It is at least better than [i]DTAS[/i]. However, I have liked it more in recent years and it is a good lead-in to the Westerburg solo stuff.

Believe it or not I never really cared for the 'Mats. I had them shoved down my throat for the last 20+ years, and aside from their first 2 albums (Sorry Ma, and Stink) I really didn't pay any attention. That said, I was still really bummed when Bob Stintson died. A sad moment in Mpls music.

They are still worshiped like Gods around here.

And having gone thru the early 80's punk scene, I made it a definate point to never see the Replacements live. I've seen every member play in other bands, but I just wanted to be that one person who never saw them.

"Kiss Me On the Bus" actually

"Let It Be" is the classic--undeniable songs like "Unsatisfied," "I WIll Dare," "Sixteen Blue," and "Answering Machine."
The next two, Tim and Pleased to Meet Me, are also chock full of goodness. After that it was hit-or-miss, as has been much of Westerberg's solo career, some great songs and many subpar ones. But I'll always be indebted to Paul for creating some of my favorite music of the past 25 years.

Oh, my god, yes. Sixteen Blue! That song still brings me to the brink of tears every damn time I hear it (memories of a painful breakup twenty years ago). Talk about angst and frustration in Westerberg's voice... And the plaintive guitar kills me every time... I love this song.

I need to track down that issue of Magnet. I'm friends with alot of those bands. I used to roadie for the Hypstrz/Mighty Mofos when I was underage, just to be able to see some great rock and roll. Terry Katzman, who was the sound man for both The Suicide COmmandos and Husker Du, and co-owned Reflex Records with Bob Mould is a really good friend of mine.
