OMD News

Postby DreamRedux » Tue Oct 09, 2007 1:57 am

Since this news affects all of OMD's projects in the near future, I am putting this announcement here from the OMD Official Website News Section.

“It is with great regret that we have to announce that OMD will not be able to appear at the Night of the Proms concerts in Belgium and Holland this autumn.

Andy McCluskey's wife Toni has been diagnosed with cancer and will be undergoing surgery followed by chemotherapy. She is expected to make a full recovery, but will be unwell for some time. Andy is very sorry for those who have bought tickets and made travel arrangements, but hopes that you will understand the serious nature of the circumstances. OMD will be replaced by Kid Creole and the Coconuts.

Unfortunately, this also means that other OMD projects will be temporarily effected whilst Andy spends time looking after his wife and children. It is hoped that the live DVD will get released as planned and the documentary will be on schedule. We are sure that all OMD fans and visitors to this website will wish Toni well and look forward to seeing her and the children at future OMD concerts.

OMD will however be recording The Ultimate Chart Show again for RTL in Koln on 15th October. This chart is for the top New Wave hits in Germany and OMD are rather high in the chart. The Ultimate Chart Show is the same one that OMD appeared on back in May 2005 which led to the band reforming.

The band will feature Andy McCluskey, Mal Holmes, Martin Cooper and Stuart Kershaw (Paul Humphreys will be in the US celebrating his daughter's 16th birthday).”

FYI: for anyone wishing to show their support for the McCluskeys, Andy makes this suggestion (from the Official Forum):

"Perhaps people could send money to a cancer charity if they wanted to do anything. We appreciate that its not very personal but it is really practical."

Best of luck to the McClusky's.

Kid Creole & the Coconuts? Not a very satisfactory replacement but I suppose beggers can't be choosers.
