Don't get all excited, there's only wild talk of one, um, sometime. (Just like there's talk of a remastered Dazzle Ships. bwahahahahahahaaha! But I digress. [;)])

Thing is, <a href="http://slashdot.org/articles/07/10/19/211245.shtml">Radiohead's creative marketing venture</a>, which is apparently netting them a tidy profit, got me thinking.

How much would you pay for a new OMD album? And what factors would you base it on?

it might be a while, this was from the official site, saw it a couple days ago:

It is with great regret that we have to announce that OMD will not be able to appear at the Night of the Proms concerts in Belgium and Holland this autumn.

Andy McCluskey's wife Toni has been diagnosed with cancer and will be undergoing surgery followed by chemotherapy. She is expected to make a full recovery, but will be unwell for some time. Andy is very sorry for those who have bought tickets and made travel arrangements, but hopes that you will understand the serious nature of the circumstances. OMD will be replaced by Kid Creole and the Coconuts.

Unfortunately, this also means that other OMD projects will be temporarily affected whilst Andy spends time looking after his wife and children. It is hoped that the live DVD will get released as planned and the documentary will be on schedule. We are sure that all OMD fans and visitors to this website will wish Toni well and look forward to seeing her and the children at future OMD concerts.

Sorry to hear about Andy's wife.....

Yeah, I heard that, too, but I thought this would be an interesting things to think about while we're waiting.

BTW, I'm getting the impression that Paul Humphreys will be quite involved with this project, if that makes a difference. (But I'm only guessing here.)

Sight-unseen, I'd pay about as much as a regular album. [8D]

The latest rumor is that the OMD album will see daylight in Spring 2009, with a new single POSSIBLY ready in October.

Exciting stuff! [8D]

$0. Life is WAY to short to listen to "new" music by bands that are 20+ years past their prime.

I have to disagree here. I'm so looking forward to the new Sparks album.

Sparks is a different issue. Although they are a pop band they have never been mainstream and I have no issues with them continuing until they are 80-something years old. But it is fairly sad to see former chart bands who are pushing 50 or more trying to get back in the game. There is probably a thread about this, but how many such bands have actually returned to produce "new" music anywhere near as interesting as what they did in their heyday? And needless to say, it won't be bothering the charts.

OMD isn't harboring any fantasties of recapturing their former glory. That's part of the reason that Andy decided not to have any OMD headline any shows stateside. Instead, he is looking into shows which include a number of bands.

Both Andy and Paul are doing a number of projects on their own, and together. For instance, Paul and Claudia are currently touring their Onetwo album. Andy (with Paul's input) is working on completing the soundtrack for a Peter Saville installation to be displayed at the <a href="http://www.fact.co.uk/">FACT Building in Liverpool</a>.

After all of their professional and personal difficulties, I think it's great that they're actually enjoying working together again. Now that they are both relatively "independent," financially and creatively speaking, perhaps they can rekindle some of that old, uninhibited chemistry that worked so well for them in the past.

Yes, it may only be an echo, but I hope it will be an inspiring and inspired, hopeful echo.

I think they are not even looking for a big commercial success. It's just something for the old fans. No more mainstream. Sometimes, it's better this way.

fyi : onetwo are claudia brücken from propaganda & paul humphreys from o.m.d. !

well ... i jus' saw them playing live yesterday in hamburg / germany & they were NOT @ ALL "20+ years past their prime" !
they were simply FANTATSTIC ! [8D]

the same goes for o.m.d. live & i also think that a new album by them is something that almost every fan could look forward too - except maybe some miserable gits , who always know it better !

well ... paul told me in the interview that i did with him jus' yesterday that he has in fact nothing to do with that project , as it's andy's baby alone ! [;)]

however ... while andy's "the energy suite" will most likely please almost all early o.m.d. fans , the new album will certainly please the great majority of real o.m.d. fans in general ! [:)]
