Since there's no "Guilty Pleasures" thread I'll just have to post this here. A band I have always loved to hate, "Loverboy", has just released a new album.

It kills me to admit it but I actually like it.

Let the flames begin.

Just Getting Started: that's a bold album title for a bloated & aging band! So you're "lovin' every minute of it"?[:D] Don't worry, I admit to owning one greatest hits collection by said band. More power to 'em if it can past muster here on this board!

I heard today that Ace Of Base is also planning a comeback. [xx(]

Did that new Eagles record finally drop? First one since 1979.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't Loverboy's first two albums considered respectable at the time of their release? I remember thinking their sound was very cutting edge at the time of their self-titled release (granted, I was in high school, so I was hardly an expert). I also really liked Get Lucky (although they wore out Working For The Weekend, pretty quickly). When It's Over was a great song.
Of course, Reno's sappy ballad with Nancy Wilson was when they jumped the shark.

Your delusions are consistent, I'll give you that.

In LA, we always took them to be the fetid carbuncle of music that they're rightfully recognized as.

I always smile when I stumble upon these threads in the NWO message board. Some of you guys can be so humorous in your responses and all. Yes, Loverboy isn't New Wave, but I must concur that when I first heard them with their song, "Turn Me Loose", I really did think it was cutting edge at the time of its release. And, (if I dare admit it), their song "Working For The Weekend" was, and still is a guilty pleasure when I hear it on a Friday night at 5:00 pm. It will forever be a ----- GASP!! ----- an anthem of some sort.

Now, Ladies and Gentlemen, go to it and apply your great responses to what I just said. You guys are AWESOME and I really thank you for letting me be here on the New Wave Outpost.

I'm doubtful they can get back to that golden do-no-wrong phase when they lyrics both profound and witty seemed to spring effortlessly from their pens. Who could fail to be moved by

Some say she do

That's poetry, people.

OK, sarcasm aside, I have to list "Workin' for the Weekend" and "The Kid is Hot Tonight" as guilty pleasures. I have no desire to hear their new album, though.

My impression was that Loverboy started off better than most of its contemporaries, but went downhill quickly. They were tolerable until "Hot Girls in Love". The awful lyrics were one reason, but also their video had the stupidest gag ever: the drummer was drumming with gas pumps. Oy.

I'll go along with that.
The funny thing is, Mutt Lange's over-the-top production on songs like "Lovin' Every Minute Of It", sent Loverboy on a downward spiral, around the same time that his very-similar production was making Def Leppard one of the world's biggest groups.
