Anyone remember the 1984 album release on A&M records by Billy Rankin?

It contained the single "Baby Come Back" even though I prefer the songs "Think I'm In Love" and "Never In A Million Years"

What are your thoughts on Billy Rankin?

I really like Baby Come Back. I haven't heard anything else by him, that I can remember.

I picked up Baby Come Back a couple of years ago. It was one of those songs I rarely heard back in '84, and forgot all about. Funny when you come across a song you used to like, which has totally slipped out of your mind. Hearing it again took me right back!

I'm the farthest thing from a Nazareth fan as you can get, but I remember liking a few songs off "Growin Up Too Fast." I'd have to dig out my copy, because other than "Baby Come Back," I don't remember what they were.

"Baby Come Back" got a lot of vidplay on MTV in early '84. Did fairly well on the charts, too (#52 Hot 100), although A&M couldn't be bothered releasing a followup. Meanwhile, Nazareth had about 200 singles, 199 of which stiffed Stateside.

I have the Billy Rankin album. I always kind of liked when someone from an AOR band would do solo material with a little more new wave bite, like this. Phil Lynott (from Thin Lizzy) did the same.

I consider Billy Rankin typical 80's AOR

It does have a new wave flavor to it, and I place that kind of music in a "crossover" category. Similar to artists like Bang-Bang, The Breaks, The Streets, and Tom Teeley
