XM Fred 44 - 2,044 Songs Counted Down

Postby glokstadt » Fri Dec 28, 2007 5:54 am

For those that care to tune in, the Fred Essencials Countdown, Version 7 has been happening since Boxing Day (12/26--for those that don't know...), and there are around 1,000-ish now. I was listening for the most part from 1690 to 1545, some gems (The Bats - Treason), most are all the more well-known tunes... WIshing You All a Happy New Year!!! _Glok

#24 - Violent Femmes - Fat - are you serious? I like to think I'm a pretty big Femmes fan and I wouldn't put this anywhere near their top song, let alone #24 in a list such as this - I would put every track on their debut LP ahead of this one.

Similary I don't get Just Like Heaven as #1 - I'm not sure if that would make my list of top 5 Cure tracks...

On the other hand, Mirror in the Bathroom didsn't surprise me at all, I think it's a great track - not sure it would score quite so high on my list, but it would be up there, probably in the top 20 or so.

As a side note I liked the reasons for missing songs on the list
:-)

Later,
Ralph

Some very good selections, but "Lips Like Sugar" & "Just Like Heaven"? They are only pale cousins to "The Cutter" & "Inbetween Days". Oh late 80's retreads, why do you still vex us so?

I'm with all of you on your point SuNomi/TheMunDail/ralphd. I too was disapointed to hear number 1 after listening for days/hours to their countdown. BenAtWork and I were talking on the phone before the Top 20 were played and we guessed that Soft Cell's Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go (two Northern Soul classics!) would be No. 1...

Somewhere I have written the songs from around 1,700 to 1,500 of the countdown--will look for it and post later.

I was thinking the same thing, and I couldn't even remember that song "Fat?" Other great V.F. songs were already played in the countdown.

Mine either, but they played all the others ones way before in the countdown...

It's high on my list as well, I was just surprised that it was that high on Fred 44's list because some of the songs that made the last 20 made me start to wonder...

Thanks--I would make notes what I was doing when I missed some tunes, couldn't sit there and just watch all that time.[:D]
