Any bands from the 80's that you deliberatly avoided, without knowing what they sounded like, just based on their name? Juvinile--yes--but I can think of Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons (whom I found to be okay--25 years later ) and Pere Ubu--or whatever the hell their called!! Does the friggin name mean anything????

Poi Dog Pondering - I've managed to make it this far without hearing them. I doubt I'm missing anything except some grade A whiny-assed wusspop.

Yo La Tengo - I would have avoided them had they been avoidable. I'm glad they weren't because I like them.

I read a blurb about this band in 1980 I think and never forgot the band name. "Scrotum Poles".

Yo La Tengo--I Did avoid them--and I am glad I did. Not into them at all--first I ever listened to them was about 2 years ago!! Also the last time.[:D]

Pere Ubu is the central character in a series of absurdist plays by Frenchman Alfred Jarry (1873-1907). "Pere" is French for "father." "Ubu" is the name of the character. The band was named Pere Ubu because:

* It seemed like a good idea at the time

Pere Ubu was actually excellent. They rose from the ashes of Cleveland's Rocket From The Tombs, the same band that spawned The Dead Boys.

As for bands that I avoided because of their name, I can't think of any (but there were plenty of bands, upon hearing them, that I wish I did. Timbuk 3 comes to mind).



We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

Flaming Lips (I think they were around in the 80'?). I know a lot of critics love 'em, but don't count me in.

Strawberry Switchblade....stayed away and have yet to hear anything by them.

Throbbing Gristle. I cannot get past the image. From what I understand, I wouldn't be a fan of their music anyways.

Although since I didn't deliberately avoid Feelabeelia, EBN-OZN or Kajagoogoo, I'm not sure what this says about my taste.

club80, I hated Anal Cunt because it's logistically impossible. A cunt, by its very nature, cannot be anal -- unless the chick was born with some serious birth defects. I have no problems with Cunt Puppet. That's a band name I can sink my teeth into.
