why do they call 80's musci, especialy new wave music, retro? where did they get the word and what does it mean ?

It stands for retrospective, meaning: "Involving, relating to, or reminiscent of things past."

"Retro" is a combining form meaning "back," "backwards" or "behind" as in retro-rockets.

Interesting topic. I believe many of the styles of the 80s were "retro". The late 70s punk often harkened back to 60s simplicity in response to the overly elaborate styles of the 70s AOR music of the day. Others were even more directly "retro". Who co

Hmm..this is a strange thread indeed. 80's music/style is called retro because it's old. Same reason why "retro" is attatched to anything derivative of the 70's, 60's and beyond. I'm actually starting to hear Blondie and The Police on the oldies radio sta
