New Wave Outpost Forum

Hi everyone I have something important to discuss. I am in the midst of reuniting with friends from long ago from high school, clubs and long forgotten times back in the NW/PR times from 20 to 25 years ago...

I'm reconnecting with those who were totally punk rock or new wave back in the day but now a days they have completely lost it all... Not even one drop of any alternative is left in their soul... Some have become soft rock coffee house Damian Rice fans or even worse... Heavy Metallers... holy shit... what has happen... Is this common? Most of the people I hang out with are alternative/new wave/ punk rock types. Even my Christian friends are punk rockers... My old punk rock/new wave peeps from long ago have lost their vibe. Have you encountered this? I never come to grips with this... What is happening? I thought we were punk rock/new wave 4 life? Do people really change??? Damn!!!

Now there are those who I encounter who have lost a large percentage of their vibe even that is hard to come to grips with... I thought we were lifers...

I don't know what's worse- losing your musical soul as you age or NOT being able to evolve and still thinking "Love Shack" is the coolest song ever!

Yeah I understand... But continue the tradition for example keeping it in the alternative family like listening to the New Stuff thats sounds like the old stuff...

Le Tigre, or Franz Ferdinand, and so on... The Bravery playing next week @ the Fillmore... Going from punk to lets say some slammer head metal band is more of a regression and moving on...

I'm 39 and I pretty much agree with Quite Life.

Maybe its a so-cal thing, but I was really upset when in the mid 90's all of my friends went all "Swing-A-Billy" ---started dressing like our grandparents --stinky old clothes and greasy pompadors....listening to Royal Crown Revue etc....not saying that there is anything wrong with the music, swing dancing etc. I LOVE rockabilly.

It's just that EVERYONE of my age took on that retro thing to the extreme. I think I even heard my friend Jeff say "23-skiddoo..see?"....there was so much interesting current stuff going on at that time electronic music wise,

I would rather try and be at least a little bit current....keeps you young...even when you're not.

That being said, I listen to my new wave/punk records like a mental patient.

Good call I too can blame much on the 90s all that metal stuff like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, STP and all that crap, the new wave/ punk rock crowd that got sucked into that got carried off into Metal head captivity like Metallica and AC/DC (puke) hence the punk/new wave vibe was forfieted!!! Thenthere are those who had the unfortunate nature of just burning out... like a bright shinny star that fades into darkness their vibe slowly fades to black... non existence.
