I'm sorry, but Gillian needs to go back to New Order. Her delicate, feminine wistfulness was the perfect antecedent to Hooky's gruff and attitudinal vibe or Barney's frat boy microphone antics. Hers was a demure stature; a modest and humble gentleness full of confidence and ability on the keyboards. I challenge anyone to name a band member who is more missed from a group [:)]

I'll go with Alan Wilder from Depeche Mode.

Carlos Peron from Yello.....they lost their "weirdness" factor and turned into a Eurodisco band....not that that is a bad thing. I just liked the weirdness more.

Mark White to ABC--especially seeing as Martin is coming out with a new album

Natalie Merchant to 10,000 Maniacs. As I've said before some songwriters suffer from the "Sting" complex--they need a good band to keep them grounded and from letting their ego get away from them. This was definately the case here. Although with Robert Buck's passing their classic sound may be hard to duplicate

David Byrne to the original lineup of Talking Heads--see above comment

Fine Young Cannibals to General Public (or vice-versa). A (English) Beat revival would be most welcome

No way. That guy (seems like) too much of a rock and roll asshole who wants to be the main guy. He didn't learn anything from his first time as a solo flop, so I doubt that he'll learn the second time.

I tend to agree with you there. He was the happiest guy on earth when they reformed.. but as soon as things didn't go his way, he freaked. Ahh well. Dom is a great guitarist.. As good as it would be to see all 5 original DD members performm they should keep Dom IMO.

I actually like the recent post-Wolbert/Noonen albums...Xymox recovered nicely from that odd techno period in the mid-90s.

I agree that Alan Wilder is the correct answer--Depeche's post-Wilder material is very strong, but it lacks something vaguely Wilder-esque...

With Andy Taylor gone again, it woldn't be the worst thing if Warren Cuccurullo rejoined Duran Duran.

Yeah, newer Clan of Xymox is pretty good, though their newer techno-goth sound is getting a little stale (Farewell and Breaking Point). I think Falling Down might well be their best song from the modern COX era, followed by Something Wrong, and One More Time. To me, those three songs capture the mood of their first three albums. Twist of Shadows is my overall favorite Xymox album.

Or three bands with the same name...[i]Phoenix[/i], [i]Metamorphosis[/i], and [i]Headclouds[/i] mark a bizzare digression in the Clan of Xymox saga...

I'm actually more partial to the recent work. [i]Breaking Point[/i] and [i]Notes From the Underground[/i] picked up where Sisters of Mercy left off; they're solid goth albums. I do like their recent turn to EBM and synthpop--to me, that's very much in the spirit of [i]Twist of Shadows[/i] without sounding like a retread.

Of course, their 4AD albums stand above everthing...
