You either love them or hate them. In some songs they can be so beautifully cacophonous while in others they can be so annoying they make your ears bleed. Still, it's hard to think new wave would have been what it was without those revered horns! Many songs have great horn (sax or otherwise) hooks. Two that immediately come to mind are:

The Teardrop Explodes - Reward; and
Romeo Void - A Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing)

Bands like The Jam (Absolute Beginners comes immediately to mind), Pigbag, Medium Medium, X Ray Spex, Madness, The Beat, The Specials, Bad Manners, etc have all used horns to great advantage.

Beat me to it. That's the one I thought of when I read the thread title.

"Lip Up Fatty" by Bad Manners has possibly the catchiest horn hook ever.

Lots of good ones mentioned. I'll single out the P-Furs' "Pretty In Pink". The English Beat had too many good ones to list. A while back Marv (where is he anyway?) was lamenting the disappearance of the sax from modern popular music.

Oh, yeah - The Waitresses need to be on the list of bands that made great use of horns. Love the horns on "Christmas Wrapping".

How about Fine Young Cannibals? Great trumpet work on "Johnny Come Home".
