I've been speaking to a few label reps in the U.S. about reissues and I wanted to come to YOU to help expand my list of suggestions.


If you had access to the WEA archives (Warner Bros, Atlantic and Elektra and associated labels) and could reissue an album on CD, what would it be? Bear in mind that this would have to have been released in the U.S. originally....no import-only suggestions...


And If you had access to the Sony/BMG archives (CBS, Columbia, RCA, Arista, Jive, etc) and could do the same, which albums would you want to see reissued on CD? Once again, no import titles: only domestic (ie: U.S. release).

The Smiths-I wish someone who knows what they're doing would do this project. We dont want live stuff, as we would much rather have: non album tracks/ rare/b sides stuff and extended and remixed stuff.

Romeo Void-BOTH discs are wonderful, and anyone "reissuing" them would do them justice(Please add remixes/extended's and non album tracks to anything though)

Devo-See above...LOTS of great b-sides/non album tracks Im told are still out there...we want them, please! Also, any extended mixes?

The Outfield-Play Deep needs a reissue badly....with a "true to the original" extended of: "Lose Your Love"

The Hooters-Great band, good luck trying to find anything from them in the states.

Great suggestions, but The Smiths catalog is off limits with hopes that Sire/Rhino will do a REAL reissue program in the future.

What I'm looking for is specifically WEA titles and Sony/BMG titles.

If anyone wants to post suggestions, please list the label, too. Unfortunately, they are not looking at Universal or EMI titles.

P.S. I do realize that many folks don't really pay attention to the record label that released the album (s) but if you do, please list it!

Wounded Bird has already reissued the Romeo Void CDs:

Benefactor has four extended bonus trax
Instincts has one bonus track
It's A Condition has the Debora Iyall solo album added

These each have Mercury & Polygram on their sleeves, hopefully they qualify for the labels you mentioned.

The thing is, for a record co. to do this, there has to be sufficient demand. Is there? I do know that checking on Apple's iTunes Music Store every month or so, things that I thought were obscure sometimes wind up showing up. I actually found Section 25's 'Bad News Week' (and other, entire albums) in the iTunes store. If the reduced quality of the compressed formats don't bother you, then it may be worth checking out for some long lost tuneage.

Or, is there another reason you'd want to have some songs re-published (is that the right word?)?

Damn, most of my requests would be Universal/EMI. But how about these:

Fabulous Poodles - Think Pink & Mirror Stars (Epic)

The Sound - Jeopardy, From The Lion's Mouth, & All Fall Down (WEA)

Wire Train - In A Chamber & Between Two Words (CBS)

With all due respect to Spaz, I have the same question as WLIRRIP - is there demand - but with sort of a negative answer already formulated in my head. Is there or was there ever some prerequisite dedicated following for this stuff, even if fairly regionalized? By and large, a lot of these seem way too specialty. I can see maybe Fay Ray, Scott Wilk, Boomtown, Gary Myrick, Fashion, and Wide Boy. In others' lists, I would love to see Slow Children and a second round of reissues of Wire Train and The Sound as well as The Plimsouls and 20/20 - it feels like many of those first-round reissues came too soon.

Maybe this is the best area to explore, all the reissues that are now selling for $50 to $200. Maybe Clock DVA's White Souls in Black Suits (Industrial) or Advantage (Polydor), John Foxx's Metamatic (Virgin), or Section 25's self-produced The Key of Dreams given some cult following out there.

I'm obviously not in the industry and don't have any real expertise, but my honest first reaction to this thread was "Someone could lose a lot of money."

This is not to say that everything can and will be reissued....this is just a list of suggestions that they have asked for. I did submit titles that I thought would be better sellers and this list is the 2nd level (ie: the titles least likely to make big bucks)

Titles of deleted CDs are good, too. Any WEA and Sony/BMG deleted CDs are welcome!

I do know that there is a label who have already approval for those two Fabulous Poodles titles, btw. Just deciding when and if they want to do it...

No other re-issue matters to me other than seeing TREES "Sleep Convention" out on CD, with bonus tracks!

WEA has the SCREAMING BLUE MESSIAHS

and

"Bikini Red" (at about $30 http://www.amazon.com/Bikini-Red-Scream ... 496&sr=8-3)

and their third "Totallt Religious" "SCREAMING" for reissue!

These were reissued in the UK with bonus tracks. Are they deleted already?

Renascent's license with WEA expired a while back, I think about a year ago. There was a news entry on Renascent's website (http://www.renascent.co.uk/#) which I saw probably 6-9 months ago which said that the license had expired and WEA was going to re-issue these under the original Korova Label in early 2008 but obviously this never happened. The news entry is now gone from Renascent's website so I can't say for certain the exact timelines involved. Thanks. Jeff.
