Gen X 200%!!! BIlly's solo stuff leaves so much to be desired, I can count on 1 finger the solo song I like - White Wedding.

Generation X's 3 albums are great, and the "lost" album Sweet Revenge is a must-have for any fan.

Billy Idol is pure gold on either side of the fence.

Oh man, Gotta' go with Gen X. The first album is still right up there in my top 10, and has been since I first heard it in '84.
-wasn't crazy about Into the Valley of the Dolls but King Rocker is a friggin' awesome track.

I have to give props to solo

I would strongly suggest revisiting Valley Of The Dolls.

Running With The Boss Sound, Night of the Cadillacs, Fridays Angels... man, what a great album! Even the 2 part ballad Prime Of Kenny Silvers is classic.

Dude, you are so right about that. I totally forgot about Runnin with the Boss Sounds and the like. Thanks for the heads up. I'm gonna dig that one out.

Another great track off 'Valley of the Dolls' is "English Dream"...

Generation X over Billy Idol definitely. Was so bummed out to see him claim "Dancing with Myself" as his own when I'd been listening to it on the Gen X 'Kiss me deadly' album for awhi

I like them both, but I really have to go with Generation X. "Kiss Me Deadly" is one of my favorite songs, and the songs still sound really good, whereas some Billy Idol solo songs are not as good years later.

billy idol SOLO!

i like my idol synthesized, i.e. the linn drum middle part of the extended "white wedding" or the excellent "flesh for fantasy." hell, i adore "eyes without a face," no bones about it.

I like both, but I'm gonna go with early solo Billy Idol...."White Wedding" is one of my FAVE songs ever...the minute that opening guitar riff starts, I'm on my feet ! Same with "Hot in the City"--YEAH! I love the song Rebel Yell, but not so much the rest

Here's one for all the trainspotters...

On the track "Triumph", coming out of the 3rd verse Tony James hits a bum note and slides up to the correct one. I've got a demo of the same song and the bum note isn't on that one.

I have to go with Generation X. Billy Idol's solo stuff is alright, but a little to contrived for my liking. Generation X were a really great pop-punk band.
