OK, not a fan of Dave Kendall, but he's dj'ing something called Party 360 on First Wave (not sure if this is all weekend? Is he a regular dj now? Haven't checked their site)

Again, not sure if this is normal - haven't been listening to First Wave much lately. But it's sounding (gulp) great. And for me to say that about Dave Kendall is scary!

Ok, just heard the promo. Party 360 is their new Friday night - 360 min of classic alt/wave. Not sure if it replaces Fred Schneider.

Weird - I listened to that exact same block of songs last night! I was also surprised to hear Dave Kendall on there. I've been doing an impression of him for years, saying things like (the Ned's Atomic Dustbin album) "God Fodder" (he pronounced it "Gawd FODDAH!") and (the first Curve album) "Doppleganger" (he pronounced it ("Dopp-el-gang-AH!").

Funny, I was listening at the same time! I really don't like Dave Kendall, and hope they instead hire some other ex-WLIR'ers, but if they get more "Fred" like with the merger that's cool.

They should really do TWO New Wave stations, the glossy one like First Wave was, and a deeper, more obscure one. Maybe one more "female" and one more "male" orientated, because I dial right the heck out when Duran/Depeche comes up.

I actually just wrote an email to Sirius about the merger. Here's my sage advice:

<I just wanted to register my 2 cents before the merger decisions are made. I got Sirius for Howard Stern, and religiously listen to the "West Coast feed" from 10am-2pm EST weekdays.

I then flip to, (and really appreciate the programming on) "Left of Center." Jenny Eliscu there is great, and I hope Matt Pinfield can continue to play "whatever he wants" despite his morning job on boring old FM. The music on LOC beats the heck out of XM's "XMU" from the times that I've heard it, and is my #1 source for finding new music, so I hope LOC (and Jenny) stay virtually intact.

The converse is true when it comes to the New Wave stations. I'm a longtime fan of "Larry the Duck" on "First Wave" (and wish you would hire another ex-WLIR'er "Donna Donna" away from WBAB-FM to reunite her with Larry), but the music variety on First Wave pales in comparison to XM's "Fred." Maybe having TWO New Wave stations (one for the Duran Duran/Depeche Mode/Erasure stuff that appeals to the soccer moms who were casual new wave fans, and one with a wider, more daring, Clash/Gang of Four/XTC/Jam + more obscure new wavers) would be appropriate, as I tune out every time Duran/Depeche pops up, and would love a station to pull out 80's New Wave nuggets I forgot about or missed.

One other idea...I rig up an Internet connection to catch Steve Jones of the Sex Pistol's "Jonesey's Jukebox" on Indie 103 from LA on Fridays (when Jenny is off LOC). He would be a perfect fit on "Sirius Disorder" 3-5 pm if you can get simulcast rights. I remember reception of Indie in LA itself being really spotty, so I bet they'd be amenable if they could tell their advertisers they'd get a better audience. >

I heard FirstWave while at a coffee shop for several hours and was floored. I recognized every tune in a good way. They play the obscure stuff.
