My favorite new album this year (it's been a pretty slow one) is Vampire Weekend's debut from January. All year, I've been thinking they remind me a lot of an 80's act, but only today did I put it together.

I was watching the newly-released on DVD Lloyd Cole & the Commotions Live at the Marquee 1986 (performance is good, though the sound is pretty muddy, and the show woefully short, but worth a look), when I realized they were the band I was thinking of.

Lloyd and VW's Ezra Koenig definitely share a sense of style (20-odd years apart) and love of rhyming big words. They even hold the guitar the same way. Anyway, thought I'd share the revelation.

wow. I like their CD a lot as well but I liken them to Paul Simon's "Graceland" era (which I don't even own)

Love Vampire Weekend, they performed well on Saturday Night Live (SNL) with a string quartet!

I wonder if they are named after the [i]Get Smart[/i] episode by the same name from season 1???
