Fred is gone. First Wave has replaced it.

(Also, Ethel's been replaced by Alt Nation.)

look's like Sirius is getting the upper hand in the merger. dont you find first wave (and fred for that matter) to just play the most obvious stuff? I cant listen to it....

Just heard "Bang a Gong", "The End of the World as We Know It", and "Saved by Zero" in the last 15 minutes.....if they play "Love Shack", I'm done.

dude....they will. wait for it. It's really terrible..some of Next wave 'alternative' shows play some OK stuff. but its Saturday night usually when I'm sweatin' my bitches over on Shade 45

Welcome to First Wave.

Damn, I was hoping for the "Fred" playlist with "Larry the Duck" from First Wave staying. I listen to First Wave when my Wife's in the car, but can't stand that Duran and Depeche get played EVERY FRIGGIN' HOUR! Wish they would expand the playlist a little to include more obscurities like Fred.

My "current" alternative station "Left Of Center" took the "XM U" name, but it seems to be the same music and DJ's (I like Jenny Eliscu from Rolling Stone), so that's not so bad.

First Top Ten Wave can suck it. It's like they take every standard 80's compilation CD out there, put them in a 50-CD changer and press "shuffle". Fred played a lot of stuff I've never even heard, I'll be stunned if I ever hear something that wasn't a Billboard Super Smash on FW. I felt that, with Fred, nothing was off limits. Not so with FW.

It's just like everything else in pop culture - the masses want to hear "Shout", "Rio" and "People Are People" over and over, and that's what they'll get. It's probably worse on satellite radio - if you don't recognize the song being played, don't listen to it and see if you'll like it, go flip over to one of the other 190 channels!

Now that would be sweeeeet! I just made my way back to FA after a long absence, and I'm very pleased I did......although it's blocked by my IT Department here at work. [:(]

Good cheapskate alternative to all of this malarkey is either; impeccable taste and a big iPod, or try Pandora (intuitive online radio player)...

Too true. I would pay at least what I did for XM to have FA in my car.

I made a decision to trade the monthly fee for XM to Netflix about 2 years ago. Now that they have lost Fred, I'm very glad I did

I've been listening the past hour or so. The last 10 songs I've heard....

rem - shiny happy people
oingo boingo - dead man's party
berlin - the metro
stray cats - runaway boys
the police - next to you
david bowie - blue jean
joan jett - do you wanna touch me
devo - through being cool
simple minds - sanctify yourself
public image limited - this is not a love song

Not bad. But nothing obscure. God that REM song is horrible.

My worst fears come to life. Gone are the days when Fred would play things like "Softcore" by Maurice and The Cliches, "Poppies in the Field" by The Teardrop Explodes, and "A Beat For You" by Pseudo Echo.

Now we get "Lips Like Sugar", "How Soon Is Now", and freaking UB40. Are you serious? My mom would like this station.

I am openly nominating myself as a "creative consultant" to Sirius/XM so Firstwave can become halfway listenable again. Seriously.

I'll work cheap...hell, I'll do it for free. For the greater good. I won't even ask for Howard Stern's autograph, as I can't stand him.

But I digress. Mel Karmazin, the ball is in your court. Something must be done, or else an iPod setup for the car seems imminent.

Direct TV offers a sampling of XM Satelite radio,
of which Fred <u>was</u> one of them. I would have it
on at least 2 or 3 nights a week. 1st wave, the
Sirius replacement can't hold a torch to Fred.
I'm sure there are some of you who are ok with
this but I am not one of them. Thankfully, now
I have the motivation to buy a new turntable,
and listen to the music I want.
