Given that we have started an annual holiday 80's music list, I was curious as to which one you feel was THE ONE that speaks for the decade.

Note: I narrowed it down to 11 (10- 80's & 1- track from late '79) based on which ones got and still get frequent radio airplay this time of year (NW & NNW)

I had to go with "Do They Know It's Christmas". Not my favorite. I don't even like it but based on the question, I had to choose it.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I voted for Do They Know It's Christmas as well. It is pretty epic to have all those artists on short notice and actually pull off a pretty good song! I have a Japanese cd single with the 12" extended version, which I prefer to the standard version.

The most recent one for me Cyndi Lauper & The Hives.

Had to go with "Do They Know It's Christmas." It really is epic, especially with the roll call as the bridge. Bowie brings the house down!

I also love "Christmas Wrapping" and "Last Christmas."

[/quote]Despite my feeling oddly the same way about the Dan Fogelberg track, I must still give DTKIC top honors.

Even though 'Same Auld Lang Syne' is an unmistakably melancholy tune, it never fails to resonate with me for some reason.

However, The full (but dated) extended version of DTKIC will ALWAYS summon some pretty powerful feelings especially as Bowie's solemn plea is punctuated by Phil Collins percussion and rousing count down which sets the stage for the anthemic chorus of..

IMHO- The blatantly overproduced & sappy ripoff 'We Are The World' will NEVER hold a candle to this truly heartfelt original.

Out of the list, I voted for The Ramones.

From the other list mentioned in this thread, The Damned's "There Ain't No Sanity Clause," The Kinks' "Father Christmas" The Pogues' "Fairy Tale of New York" make it for me.

Not on the list, but how about "12 Days of Christmas" by The Yobs. And "Things Fall Apart" by Cristina is still my favorite.
