This is too painful for me to post that I can't even bear to look [|)][:0][|)] at the results both bands are the best of the best of the best!

The Clash by far.I used to beg my parents to take me to the nearest cool record store (about a 100 mile trip) every couple of months specifically to look for Clash stuff. I still love them to this day. The Jam is one of those bands that I should like and that I've tried to like, but I just don't get excited by them at all.

No offence but The Church should never never nver ever be mentioned on the same level as The Clash or The Jam! ever!

The Jam. They felt more "mine" than the Clash, who everybody "owned".

My two favorite groups during my formative, 'new wave molding' years.

The right look, sound, words, attitude...

Both groups were there for me when I was a confused, insecure 14 year old. I needed these guys. I can't pick one over the other. Sorry.

I love The CLASH!!! (only next to Ramones, of course!) I had several self-painted t-shirts back then, just to make sure that no one else wears the same thing that I do (dang, I hate walking around and seeing "stupid" people wearing exactly the same shirt that I got! Argh![}:)])

If The Clash had alot more great material after London Calling,I would have definately gone with them,but after that album,their material just seemed to go downhill quite a bit,except for the Black Market Clash album.The following Clash albums after that just were never the same again.Had Sandinista been just one LP it more than likely would have had alot more better material on it.

The problem being was the album was way too long and was just a mediocre album at best.The same can be said of Combat Rock.And forget about Cut The Crap.So with all of this in mind I am going to say that The Jam were better,and I did like every one of their albums.

newwavepopman, I hate to admit it, but you are right with "Cut the Crap" but why would you say the same thing on "Combat Rock" when this album also contains great classic tracks like: Know your Rights, Should I Stay or Should I Go?, Rock the Casbah, Straight to Hell, etc.

that's a tough matchup all right.Hmmmm...
I say the CLASH. I like more of their stuff. The Jam have some awesome tunes, but most of their stuff never really grabbed me.

I think out of all the "vs." threads, this is by far the toughest to make a choice from. I'll agree with what newwavepopman said about "Combat Rock"; while it does have some great songs on it, I find the album to be inconsistent, and some of it suffers from the Sandinista experience (I can't listen to "Sean Flynn", for example). I think the Clash came on strong from day one, but the Jam got better and better with each successive album (until "The Gift" came out, anyway). I love the Jam, but I'm giving my vote to The Clash, if for nothing more than sentimental sake (I've been listening to them longer).

Simply impossible to choose.

I go with the Clash even though none of their songs can touch "Liza Radley".
