Hey all. As a hifi enthusiast, I was curious as to what other NWOutpost members are running. I assume a lot of you guys listen to LP's mainly. I certainly do! A lot of my music isn't available on CD at all.

As for myself, I got a few vintage stereo amplifiers from Marantz, Fisher, and Heathkit as well as a modern system consisting of Vandersteen speakers and Cambridge Audio electronics. Both have their place IMO.

So, whatcha got?

Media Monkey for all things digital.

Rotel turntable (vintage)
Ortofon cartridge
Pioneer amp (vintage)

Everything is run through Creative X-Fi soundcard on computer with AAL 150W speakers (vintage)

Rega Planet CD Player
Krell 400XI Integrated Amp

I am considering adding a Cambridge Audio Dac Magic for the cable box...

I have a pair of Wharfedale 9.2 pro actives fed by a M-Audio Audiophile soundcard on my PC. I am also considering a Dac Magic for it.

Rega and Krell? Jealous here!!! My system's front end is a Pro-Ject Debut III with Speed Box and Ortofon OM5E (soon upgrading to the OM20 stylus). I use the Cambridge 540P moving magnet preamp with it. I have a Sony SACD player but haven't really embraced that format as much as I've embraced vinyl.

As for the DACMagic, I wholeheartedly endorse it after reading the review in Tone Audio volume 20.

I just picked up a 90s era Rotel amplifier. It works well with my Denon cd player (w/HDCD decoding capability, although not many new wave releases seem to have HDCD).

I'm a hifi junkie also.I've restored and/or modified the circuits in my,computer soundcard, headphone amps,amp,preamp,dvd players,and speakers.I have an electronics background.

We've got the bare minimum: At home, we've got a very basic Zenith CD/DVD player with minimum fanfare/accoutrements. Nice speakers. The computer's got Media Player. Occasionally I listen to my Memorex mp3 player. Seeing your guys' systems makes me feel inadequate.[:o)]

Some of my equipment is definitely older(hint from the late 80's)so I had no choice but to restore it.Those items now sound much better and increased their lifespan another 20 years.

Otoh,
You can go to your local Best Buy and purchase a 2 channel Sony receiver,Sony cd player(or use a $50.00 dvd player for cd's),Polk or Klipsch bookshelf speakers, and associated interconnects for maybe $400.00 to $550.00. I know thats chunk of money but you'll have a modest system that will fill a living room with sound.Just food for thought if interested.[:D]

Ah! Another Little Dot user! Awesome. I use the MKII with my Grado sr325i. Lately I've been using headphones more than ever. Love this hobby.

Agreed..nothing and I mean nothing beats a good quality headphone system for your listening pleasure.You'd have to spend mega bucks for a home system to equal that type of sound ! My Little Dot MKIII can also be used as a preamp.I tie it in on my existing home preamp so I can have use of tone controls.It sounds wonderful that way plus the music injected with tube goodness.

My 1972 KENNER "Close N' Play" record player keeps those NW singles and records playin' vintage. Love it!

No offense, Elektrik, but the Kenner Close N Play has a reputation for destroying vinyl in a lot of audiophile circles!!

It's usually a mix of CDs, my iPod and LPs. I have a software system called INport that is awesome. I can basically remaster any old LP into high quality digital that sounds as good as a CD or mp3. If the album is pretty clean, you can't tell the difference when you transfer it from the record, but hey if the LP sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies, it won't work miracles.
