just plain awful, all these "rappers" should be wiped off the face of the earth

I kid you not. This is my 10 year old son's favorite song. He is not interested in the original at all. In fact, he denies ever liking any NW song at all. I'm not a happy camper. [:(!]

Are Dead or Alive in the pantheon of new wave gods whose desecration must somehow be mourned?

Like it or hate it (I hate it), by refering to this as "copycat scum," your implying some nefarious rip-off scheme. In fact, Pete Burns and the other original writers are listed as the co-authors of this song and are therefore reaping substantial royalties. And at over two months on the chart -- including the last several weeks at #1 -- I'm sure DOA are not complaining...if anything it may be giving a boost to Pete's somewhat careening career.

Other New Wave artists enjoying writing rewards thanks to Hip-Hop:

A Flock Of Seagulls (see Slim Thug "I Run"...over 11 weeks on the Billboard R&B chart.)

this hip hop version is okay for a few listens, but seriously, Jessica Simpson did a unique take on the track on her last album that was actually good modern electro pop--I was really surprised it wsan't released as a single.

I believe I read this song set the record for most downloads in 1 week in the history of music downloads.

you do realize this song is SO popular because the lyrics are explicit without actually being explicit, right? Teenagers eat that kind of stuff up. When we were teens, me and my friends couldn't get enough of Sex(I'm A...) by Berlin, Erotic City by Prince (the non-bleeped version), I Want Your Sex by George Michael...you get the picture. Granted, those are all really good songs regardless of the lyrics, but we were still drawn to them because of the lyrics.

Meh... I've heard MUCH worse.

IMO, calls to mind Kanye West's current vocoder infused musical shtick.

Actually, listening to the the beat sounds like a cross between the old Stevie Wonder Track 'Master Blaster' (Jammin) and The Timelords 'Doctor'n The Tardis'

I agree...and thanks for tipping me off to "I Run." This generation of hip-hop artists appreciate New Wave more than frikkin' Rolling Stone critics did in 1983, and that's OK with me!

Flo Rida has done better songs than this, without resorting to "borrowing" from New Wave anthems. Everybody has to run out of ideas sooner or later.

apparently, it was a pretty good idea, considering sales and chart position.

his next idea was pretty good too, it's already #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in it's second week, with help from Eifel 65's Blue (Da Ba Dee). Like it or not, the dude cranks out the hits
