Sonic Youth week on Pitchfork TV

So far, they have put up the band doing 4 new songs from "The Eternal" (out today and amazing!)and "Schizophrenia". These new songs are gonna KILL live. Wish they were playing New England this tour. [:(]

Going through this album again tonight. It's goddamned good. It might be their most melodic and accessible album ever.

I bought it through the Matador Buy Early, Get now program so I've had a lot of time to live with it. I loved it on first listen and still do. It is pretty straightforward and accessible but I don't really expect them to constantly be breaking new ground and there's enough new tricks thrown in to keep me guessing. It also works as a summer road trip cd, which is kinda weird for a Yoof album (at least for me it does ... YMMV). The only complaint I have is with the mix ... it's really muddy. Wonder if that's why Kim sings "turn up the treble" in the first track "Sacred Trickster".[:o)]

Parts of it remind me of EJST&NS. I know Matador is pushing "Sacred Trickster" as the single but I went with "What We Know" for the radio show. It's got a good ominous groove.

Good call. "Trickster" is a killer song and works great as the album opener but I would have preferred "What We Know" to be the single, Great noise freakout and Ibold's bass line to bring it all back in gets me every time. My guess would be it wasn't chosen because it was a Lee song.
