I haven't a clue as to what they sound like,if they're any good, etc. I was @ a local record store tonight here in Vegas, and one of my buddies who works there, knows I'ma huge '80s fan, so he set some stuff aside for me that came in within the last few weeks. There were 3 HM's records in there(I dont know which ones), I just said "never heard of 'em". he told me they were an acquired taste, and that I may not like them.

So, I put it to my brothers and sisters here, how are they as a band? any notable tracks i should know about?

If only there was a global system of interconnected computer networks that used some form standardized communication protocol suites that allowed millions of private and public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope linked up via copper wires, fiber-optic cables, wireless connections, and other technologies so that some sort of online video "site" could serve up digitally encoded video content or an online mega retailer had some sort of "listen" function for similarly encoded and compressed audio content that one could look up and listen to. Alas, that's probably crazy talk.

"There Is Always Something To Remind Me" (no, not the Naked Eyes/Burt Bacharach song) and "Happy Hour" are pretty good. And Fatboy Slim was their bass player!

I'm not a Housemartins expert but I owned several of their albums so I can give you an idea. The lead singer's got a great voice, maybe a slight resemblance to Simply Red's. Most of the HM songs are kind of fast and I'm not really into those. When they slow their music down, you can hear his voice and those songs are great. Their best two songs in my opinion are "Build" and "Light Is Always Green". These are the two that I play all the time. I don't listen to the rest of their songs too much.

"Me and the Farmer" took the "Caravan of Love" to "Happy Hour".
And that's all you really need to know.

The bands that emerged from the Housemartins' wake-- Beats International and The Beautiful South-- are likely more interesting.

Great band. Not really a typical 80's one though.
Their singles are catchy and fun, albums have a lot of boring acapella versions though.

No, those bands are never likely to be more interesting than the bland Housemartins.

There's this exciting new thing on these here "interwebs" called youtube........I believe that's what it's called unless I'm wrong. They have videos, whatever they are of this band.

Two albums. Sort of like The Smiths meet Squeeze. Key tracks: Me And The Farmer, The World's On Fire, Happy Hour.

Would occasionally indulge in slow RnB numbers which led to the Beautiful South's sound.

They were loved in the late 80's in the NYC/NJ area. Along with The La's and The Mighty Lemon Drops, etc.

Next you'll be theorizing about this futuristic audio and video content being embeddable on newfangled, internet cyber-entities like blogs, websites and message boards.

Right- we'll sooner elect a politically inexperienced, foreign born, black president before that happens!

Anyway, that song sounds like a Smiths B-side, as interpreted by the Del Aires, played too fast.

This is so common on forums now it's almost refreshing to read something not laced with sarcasm and "zingers". It's like everybody decided they wanted to be the next Don Rickles. I'm guilty of this myself.
