this is one of my last discoveries

a band called Metro

who have realesed an Lp' in 1979 called " new love " on emi

members of the bands are

Tony Adams bass and vocals Colin Wight guitars Peter Galdwin lead vocals Sean Lyons guitars John Laforge drums

musically it's mid tempo power pop whith some new wawish moments a little bit strange but with good and fine melodies

Have you any other information about this band , where the town the bande is coming , others realeases

musically it's good ska revival sounding group a little bit with sound like The Boss ( from uk ) or ub 40

Metro is where Peter Godwin ala "images of Heaven" They also did a Criminal World that Bowie later covered on "Lets Dance". I have the first (iguess) release 77'sire records promo copy self titeled and it has a few studio musicians playing on it.Peter Godwin, Duncan Browne, Sean Lyons, John Giblin, Somin Philips, Graham Preskett, Barry Husband. 8 tracks total. the tracks "mono mesiah and criminal world" are the stand outs. Some of the people appearing on the album went on to become "801" and other projects. I'd like to hear what yours sound like!

Dragon - Body And The Beat is one of my all time favorite albums. This is the album where the '70s ROCK band morphed into a new wave/pop band. Ex XTC drummer Terry Chambers played drums on this album and it featured the minor KROQ hit "Rain" as well as some other great '80s pop songs like "What Am I Gonna Do", "Promises" and "Magic".

The follow-up was released in the US under a different band name "Hunter" (like, wtf) but it was produced by Todd Rundgren.

Sadly, lead singer Mark Hunter died a few years back, but to many Body & The Beat is their masterpiece. good find!

another obscure wawe that i'm finding in a record bin monday is a Suzy Andrews Lp' it's from 1982 originally this an Lp from germany ( but my copy is a french pressing )with german musicians and producers but i dont know if suzy Andrews she's a german or américan singer girl

musically is Great synthpop or electro pop with two classics of new wawe covered by Suzy " der kommissar " and a Trio cover " da da da i dont' love you " some tracks are totally electro pop music , and some other have guitar parts that's reminds me a little bit of some songs from Marion valentine of the uk 70's 80's band the Doll

I remember hearing Suzy's version of Der Kommisar on the radio in 1982 at the same time as when After The Fire's version was a big hit in the USA.

I found a copy of her LP for dowlnoad today, and I am afraid that I cannot back up the above opinion.

This record stinks.

There is a reason why it is obscure - it was no good, no one bought it, and her record label doubltessly didn't let he make another.

Yes, this record has some pure techno pop on it, with chattering 8th note and 16th note sequencer patterns against robotic drums, but the production is thin, the songs are forgettable, and Suzy's vocals are largely inept - out of tune, badly phrased, poor lyrics, dead sounding.

The Blondie-ish "Scandal" is probably the best song on the record, it has some energy to it, but it is no all-time classic or anything.

The '79 Metro album is a bit harder to come by. I have the '76 release on album and on CD, which has always been one of my alltime favorite albums. The '79 release was more New Wave/Punkish. The '76 release was a lot more mellow and folksy.

Duncan Browne's solos remind you more of the '76 Metro album while Peter Godwon's remind you more of the '79. I have three of Duncan Browne's albums on CD. I like Peter Godwin but I thought Duncan Browne's solos were better.

Velveteen was the band of ex-Roxy Music,Milk and Cookies,Venus and the Razorblades bass player Sal Maida together with Lisa Burns a former member of Bostonians Willie Alexander and the Boom Boom Band.Great synth rock album,with alot of punky energy and much more rearer is Burns' solo album.For fans of these type of post glam/art pop connections is worth buying the reissue with the two rare albums of Ian North(Milk and Cookies),in early eightees,from Cherry Red.Simply Amazing bedroom synth pop.If i'm not wrong,Duncan Browne from glamsters Metro,created a pure punk project band with only one single with the name Public Zone.

Pilon,i have also the single from Boss on Rak label and really bought it very cheap.No information is known about them,but the single is very good.Rak label issued some terrific teeny pop/glam/power pop singles with the mastermind of Mickie Most.

I was quite pleasantly surprised to find on a recent Air New Zealand flight that the Dragon Greatest Hits album was one of the choices in the on-air entertainment juke box. I knew they had been popular in NZ, but I did not know that their popularity had endured. It was a great chance to hear a lot of tunes that I would not have heard otherwise.

Godwin and Browne's original version of 'Criminal World' I thought was far better than Bowie's. Far more haunting and atmospheric.

The band i recently rediscovered (after buying the album in the 80s which i hardly ever played) is "He Said" (Mute lable).
It was Graham Lewis's (from Wire) offshoot band.
One of their (12inch) singles was "Could You", a great obscure NW track.. The video can be seen on YouTube at:
