Here's a subject (one of two) that got started at work this week about 80's music: 80's Bands or Artists that were NOT New Wave but tried to cross over.
Examples:
Village People > 5 O'Clock In The Morning
Gino Vanelli > Black Cars
I remember just about everybody in Pop trying this out.

the FRIDA song was great, and a good video as well. Phil Collins rips it up on the drums. I got the import CD just for that one song!!

Billy Joel - His Glass Houses album contains a couple pretty credible (hard to admit because I'm really not a BJ fan) stabs at wavin' it:

I'm not a B Joel fan either, but I remember 'Pressure' from the Nylon Curtain? Definite new wave leanings. The video as interesting too.
