Which original 80s band/artist do you think still has a great album in them?

As U2, Sonic Youth and Pet Shop Boys have demonstrated, even 25+ years on, one can produce vital new material.

I'm going to extend this to all musical genres... not just New Wave.

So who will produce a future mega hit? Bon Jovi, REM, Sting, Billy Idol, Duran Duran?

Who and WHY do you think so?

I'm going to say Brian Setzer may be able to pull it off again. Dude's got longevity and talent. Social D would be a good bet and a sentimental choice for me.

I'm still hopeful that Partridge and Moulding...and Gregory...will work out their differences and reform XTC. These guys are so great I'd be willing to bet they still have at least one masterpiece left in them.

The Bunnymen did it in 2005 with Siberia. Their best since Ocean Rain IMHO. They're planning another release this year. The thing that worries me is rumors that Sergeant didn't have as big a role. McCulloch left to himself just doesn't bring it as well. Still have some hope though.

Devo's another choice just because how freaking vital they were in concert earlier this year. There's lots of creativity still flowing through them...or at least Mothersbaugh.

And since Wire did it last year with Object 47, why the hell not again with another album. Talk about vital and relevant, they still got both in spades.

Yeah, my money's on XTC. However, Social Distortion is still cranking out great music (& touring). I was surprised that the James album 'Hey Ma' (released in 2008) is probably their best of many. I also like the new Bats album ('The Guilty Office').

A lot of singer/songwriters are still putting out great albums-- David Byrne, Nick Cave, Howe Gelb, Stan Ridgway, Graham Parker, Nick Lowe, John Langford, Adrian Belew.
