What's the font used for cassettes?
Posted: Wed Aug 05, 2009 1:08 amI noticed on many music cassettes "back in the day", they all used the same font on the spine, regardless of artist or genre. It's a blocky font. What might this font be?
I don't know the exact font, but up until the mid-80s, each label used their own, standardized fonts for most cassettes. For instance, Sony (back when it was CBS) had the giant red block letters for the artist on a white background. MCA had large white letters on a blue background, and Arista had white on an orange background. Once the clear-cased cassettes started showing up in 1985, labels moved away from the standardized spines and did more unique ones that matched the individual artwork for each release.
