Hey everybody,
I just wrote an article about 120 Minutes for USA Today's Pop Candy website. http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... bering-mtv’s-120-minutes/1

I think some of you may enjoy that. Also, if anyone here has tapes of 120 Minutes (from its debut in 1986 through the Kendall era) or Post-Modern MTV, I would gladly transfer them to DVD for you free of charge, and I would send them and the DVDs back to you. I would love to see this stuff again.

While we are on the topic, does anybody have any mp3s or CDs of 97.5 WPST's Post-Modern PST radio show that aired in the late 80s/early 90s. It aired in New Jersey/Philly and was hosted by Mel "Toxic" Taylor and Scott Lowe (On the Go).

for a while, 120 Minutes was being aired on VH1 Classics on a regular basis. It may still be.

It pops up from time to time at 3 or 4 AM. They're not the original episodes, tho--only videos that they used to play on 120. (As well as a few they never played--they showed Wire's "Silk Skin Paws" a few weeks back and I know 120 never played that back in the day...)

Funny, whenever I briefly catch 120 Minutes on VH1 Classic it looks nothing to me like anything that resembles the original. Just a bunch of mainstream pseudo-alternative mostly chart-topping videos from yesteryear, nothing edgy about it (unlike the real 120 Minutes I remember).

LMK if you find any? I've been looking for the original shows from it's inception, till 1990, forever.

I had many [i]120 Minutes[/i] episodes taped on Beta Max (Sony's big floped video format)--don't know what I did with them...

My most fave episode was when Larry "Bud" Melman (sp?) hosted a really crazy show, wher he made fun of the "King o' Pop's" glove for the Run DMC video of [i]It's Tricky[/i], IIRC...

But the ones I remember were all hosted by Peter Zaremba (sp?) of The Fleshtones.

Nice article, well written, and I liked almost all the videos/songs you picked... I watched from 1986 to 1988-ish all the time! Then I had no cable for a period of time, and now all MTV is one giant reality show after another, yuck!

Are you thinking of the IRS Records Cutting Edge Happy Hour? Zaremba hosted that, not 120.

That's a show somebody needs to recover from the archives.

Thanks for posting the article, brings back many a fond musical memory from that time 20+ years back.

Oh yeah, I just confused the two shows there thefxc. I didn't tape 120 Mins., I taped [i]The Cutting Edge[/i] show that Peter hosted. I sure confused the two, haven't thought of that show in soooo long, the memory banks had cobbwebs...[:D]

I think they showed them back-to-back, maybe with The Young Ones in between? My god I had a lonely childhood.

But yes, while I'd love to see old 120 shows, I'd kill to watch Cutting Edge again.

Wasn't there also a show called "Post-Modern"? Maybe with Kevin Seal hosting?
