The Most Bizarre (NW or Other) Tune Heard On Muzak

This one just popped into my head when for some reason I recall hearing a rendition of PIL's 'Seattle' played over some department store Muzak system a number of years ago.
Who are the programming wonks who choose as to what tune gets 'The Muzak Makeover?' [xx(]
It all seems so fascinating to me how this <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A497856" target="blank">musical phenomenon</a> came into existence.
Is there a 'Greatest Hits' collection? or a repository of all the Muzak work ever churned out by this enigmatic corporate entity[?]

I'm not sure how WXRT (Chicago) can be across the street from Muzak headquarters, which is in Fort Mill, South Carolina. (Although, back in the 80's they were headquartered in Chicago.)
