[i]"Here is the new HQ 16:9 version Thanks to everyone who watched and commented on earlier version. A video by Jonathan Beamish for the earliest recorded version of the song produced as a John Peel Session for the BBC in 1979.

The original band footage is a mixture of a performance video shot by the band for the single release (minus the damaged shots) and live concert excerpts from Plank, Brussels and the Apollo, Manchester.

We needed to do some tricky retiming and editing to sync it up with the footage which is from completely different versions of the song. Odd to discover that much of the original performance video done for the single release wasn't edited properly with much of the shots of the band playing not cut accurately to the audio."[/i]

Wow, that is pretty damn cool.

I still love this song as much as I did the first time I heard it. I still have my 12 inch vinyl that I listen to from time to time.

Thats freakin amazing man, thanks for posting it. Im REALLY impressed with it. I just wish it would've been "Trasmission" and not LWTUA.

Most recently on disc 2 of The Best of Joy Division. It differs from the "Permanent" version that came from the first LWTUA recording session, but these two are closer to eachother than the final single release. Drop me a line if interested.

I'm so impressed with this video. It's such a fresh take for the band which we've associated with such dark imagery all these years. It successfully manages to modernize and extend the branding of JD with great respect to it's iconic visual heritage. I just can't stop watching it [:I]

That's one beautiful rendition, both the audio & video.
Indeed, great tribute to a timeless tune.

There's a 2 disc "Best Of JD"? got any info on the cover?

I just now discovered this topic. That was an awesome video. I thought it was edited very well.
