New Wave Outpost Forum

i dont know anything about genres and all that, but most of this music seems to be related to new wave or at least fans seem to share interest in many bands i like. ive browsed around this board and found so much music ranging from electronic dance music to ska to punk, and i dont know where to begin. im just looking for more bands along the lines of the cure, joy division, flesh for lulu, house of love, death cult, the smiths, etc. obviously i like things with good guitar lines and leaning more towards the post punk and rock end of the spectrum. im not so much interested in electronic music, but there have been some bands with that sort of sound that i listen to, such as new orderand talk talk. as for some modern bands i like that ive seen mentioned here i listen to are stellastarr and the sounds.

if you can tell me bands from any time period that you think i might be into, it would be great. im clueless about the difference between new wave, dark wave, post punk, etc really are, so its hard to find a particular sound out of the thousands of bands related.

doesnt need to be anything new or underground either, some popular oldies and classics i may have no heard could be good too.

Some good recommendations Jefe. Don't forget Echo & the Bunnymen as one of the preeminent guitar-driven bands. I would also suggest looking at some of the consensus best-of lists that the forum has generated in the past.

I love that you led off with the Chameleons. [:D] You should probably recommend a place to start, though, e.g. Strange Times, or one of the live albums.

I have Dali's Picture, Live In Berlin, Script of the Bridge, Strange Times, The Fan and the Bellows, and What Does Anything Mean Basically? and love them all. Anything else I need?

With regard to the Chameleons, the Peel Sessions are absolutely essential, in my book. I really like Live in Toronto disc as well.

Here Today...Gone Tomorrow, a compilation of two radio appearances, is essential for the gorgeous ballad "Sally", which doesn't appear on any other Chameleons release.
