Let's say one of your favorite New Wave artists was inducted into the rock & roll hall of fame. How would that make you feel? The Clash, Blondie, and REM are already in and IMO there's others that deserve the same recognition. Who would you choose? Which of these classic NW artists do you think deserve to be Hall of Famers?

When I saw the poll, my first thought was that The Fixx as a choice was laughable. Their inclusion doesn't seem so ridiculous all of a sudden.

The Pretenders and the Police are in as well. The apparent goal is to induct the blandest possible new wave bands. For that reason, it will be Squeeze in 2010, The Cars in 2011, and The Knack in 2012.

lol...that was a good one...
since Safari Records UK never bothered getting her records released here(in 1981/82, when she was ruling in the UK with 4 consecutive top ten singles and a platinum album,but then, they never got any of their artists released here),it's unlikely...
but she remains a loved,revered figure in the UK, reviled by the critics and hipsters, but adored by the people in the street, and a household name right up to the current moment...

usually the RNR Hall of Fame usually picks more popular artists in their particular genre
I see down the line at least the Cars, The B52s, Devo, Psychedelic Furs, New Order, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, X, Go Gos, Joan Jett
one of the biggest ommissions is Roxy Music and Sparks

actually, the biggest omissions, all pre new wave but influences on new wave nonetheless, are The New York Dolls, Iggy & the Stooges, Alice Cooper, T.Rex and Mott The Hoople, to name but a few...

I think 30 years have to pass before you're inducted, so a lot of those bands would have to wait anyway.

But hypothetically, I'd put Erasure or Pet Shop Boys in. I know they only had a few singles in the U.S., but they had a vile (as Morrissey would say) amount of hit singles in Europe and still tirelessly make albums and tour the world.

Toyah is not revered in the UK (I'm from there). She is a minor celebrity that few people (those over 35) remember as a singer. She is more known for popping up on "lookback" shows about the 70's and 80's. I don't think she's even big enough to get on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

When GENE VINCENT goes in ill start to pay attention.Til then its just a cool place to see posters, handwritten lyrics, guitars and (not) buy a t shirt.

The Cure, Depeche, and New Order are all shoe ins. Joy Division and Gang Of Four will probably make it as critical darlings/influencers. Billy Idol has a shot.

The cultural impact of Toyah is so massive it cannot yet be fathomed.
