I was very sad to read that Andy Bell of Erasure is H.I.V. +. I hope Andy stays well enough for a few more tours. I have seen Erasure live a number of times and there are not many bands that can compare to an Erasure live show!!!

The official statement from www.erasureinfo.com:

"Thank you to all the fans for their concern expressed on the Erasure forum over my H.I.V. status. I found out I was H.I.V. + in June 1998 when I had a bout of pneumonia in Mallorca, since then I have been taking combination therapy & I am feeling fine in fact I have never felt better.

Being H.I.V. does not mean that you have a.i.d.s. My life expectancy should be the same as anyone else's' so there is no need to panic, there is still so much hysteria & ignorance surrounding H.I.V & a.i.d.s lets just get on with life i.e. making music, doing a live tour & generally having a good time.

Lots of love Andy."

Interesting that this is 'old news' only made official 6+ years after the fact.
More interesting still (not mentioned in the previous post) is that Andy has had <a href="http://www.erasureinfo.com/news/statement.html" target="blank">Hip replacement surg

It was actually reported 6 years ago but denied by the band, it has just recently been made public.

Yah, since that kind of restorative procedure is usually performed on the 50+ age demographic or those with degenerative bone/joint disorders. Guess that's where his HIV condition(or treatment) inflicted its' damage.
Really Sucks anyway you look at it!

It is sad news indeed. Fortunately, HIV is not the automatic death sentence it was back in the 80s. Still it is a serious and potentially life-threatening health condition. It would be truly a great blow to lose such a talented New Wave/Synthpop singer

Here's hoping he lives a long, healthy and productive life. He is a great talent.

A friend told me this earlier only he called the band Eraser. I pretty much figured out what he meant. Sad news. I'm a big Erasure fan and will be pruchasing Nightbird when it is released.
