you're a bit late on this, there's a mile long thread on this not too long ago, of course, as Toyah stars in this epic....

Still tragic that they didn't drop her clip to focus on the significant acts.

I suspected I might be, since I was a bit late to the trough myself - guess I waited long enough that the megathread dropped off the radar (and yes, I tried "search", and it didn't.)

No matter. I'm digitizing Beta tapes now and just found the episode of The Cutting Edge hosted by Forrest J Ackerman - that got me thinking about URGH, which made me wonder if it had been mentioned here...I should have never doubted youse...

I collected "Famous Monsters Of Filmland' as a young boy in the 1960s

I also bought that magazine on a regular basis in the 1970's. Didn't realize he had hosted The Cutting Edge. What year and what artists/videos were featured?

by the way,'they' didn't drop her clip because Miles Copeland insisited on her inclusion in the film, he was trying to get her UK indie label,Safari, to grant him U.S.rights, which Safari foolishly didn't or wouldn't, who knows what their reasons were..
she was specifically placed up front in the very beginning of the film, while everyone's still awake,not buried in the last third like so much of the long forgotten muck...

That's right. Cause they always put the important acts act the BEGINNING of the show.

Remember back in 1987 when Buckwheat Zydeco let U2 close some of their concerts? That was cool.

you MUST know that 'Urgh! wasn't one long filmed concert, but a series of clips from different locations, didn't they tell you that on MTV?
big difference between a live concert(let's skip the opening act) and a movie theatre(yeah, people ALWAYS show up in the middle of the film, don't they);
in fact, the act that came on before Toyah in Urgh!,a band I'm sure that Copeland also had no use for; The Police!(who book ended Urgh!, the beginning and the end..)

That's the beauty of editing. It allows you to put things in their proper order. Or leave them out completely which would have have happened if not for the intervention of another deranged fan. Unfortunately one that actually had some clout.

By contrast, I'm pretty sure Miles didn't have to beg them to leave The Police footage in.

he managed the Police, and I.R.S. Records in America was his label,as were almost all the acts in "Urgh!",his artists..

the concept was Miles',but selling the idea to a studio and distributors put him in a position of explaining to Least Common Denominator simpletons(people like you) at the studio who the more cutting edge artists were that they weren't hearing on their top 40 stations every 5 minutes...
