New Wave Outpost Forum

Just discovered these guys while ordering some power pop stuff from amazon. Sort of power pop, sort of arena rock, sort of new wave, depending on the song. They had three albums between 79 and 81, and they are like a little bit of everyone from that era--bands that come most to mind are ELO, Rush, and early Midge Ure Ultravox. Their 81 album Walking Wild is the most inspired by new wave and is produced by Todd Rundgren.

I've only heard about two songs from New England, and for some reason in my brain I associate them with NRBQ. I don't really remember them so I have no idea if I'm close or not.

I remember them as being arena rock.

I remember one song from them and it was an early childhood favorite for me..

Yep, middle of the road classic arena rock. I thought they may have had a harder edge.

nope. not every song on every album. I don't put artists in boxes, I go by the song. Heck, WLIR used to play Clones by Alice Cooper...because, like it or not, it was a new wave song.

They were an arena rock band with a Boston/ELO type sound on most of their stuff. They opened one of Kiss' tours. Their best-known songs are "Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya" and "Hello, Hello, Hello" from their first LP in 1979.

Wow I hadn't heard these guys for 30 years! I'd forgotten what a catchy song "Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya" is; I'm going to have to track that one down.

That drummer in the video is workin' the '72 hairstyle pretty hard...even though it was 1979.

They had the P.U.N.K song,fully influenced from edgy power pop.Their whole first lp is an eclectic mix of arena rock,aor and even vaudeville.Very good Boston rock along the lines of Susan,Thundertrain and Private Lightning.

Good comparison to Private Lightning. Also reminds me of that band Keep It Dark who I just recently discovered after the release of their album on CD was mentioned on the News, Reissues section.

They were one hit wonders but I always did like that song of theirs. Kind of had that very early MTV vibe to it similar to acts like Steel Breeze, 707 etc. Good times.

I had a friend at college who was obsessed with this band when they came out.

Members of New England, John Fannon and Jimmy Waldo supported musically a very young Bostonian female singer named Annie McLoone in 1976.Her lp''Fast Annie''is a nice example of bar/boogie rock before the new wave explosion.
