Been going through old albums and have been listening to most of my Modern English collection. Forgot how much I several of their albums including Ricochet Days. Also was struck by how much I liked Gary McDowell's guitar playing (even though he looked a bit like Colonel Sanders)

Thoughts on the band? Like? Hate? Meh? favorite songs (and yes I could go quite a long time without hearing "I Melt With You" again.

Word has it they may be on the Regeneration Tour this year (if it happens).

Mesh & Lace, one of my favorite dark wave albums, from Modern English. Which reminds me, need to cut a video for Gathering Dust, released in 1980, awesome tune.

I think these guys have a pretty timeless sound. They sound good every few years when I revisit them (I have After The Snow, Ricochet Days and the compilation cd).

On a related note, I'm still bummed that I missed their opening set for Thomas Dolby on his Flat Earth tour. I was working security, but was stuck outside watching the tour bus during their opening set...the closest I got was to hear their sound wafting out the backstage door.

x2 for this album..a true classic from a bygone era !

My all time Modern English favorites are

Spinning Me Round
Someones Calling

and Machines,

Melt With You is toooo overplyed here in manila.

I think they were quite underrated. I'm sure tons of people under the age of 21 are already aware of "I Melt With You" and probably like it. To those people (if they're New Wave fans), I'd highly recommend checking out their first three albums. The album Stop Start is also good and kept that early new wave sound of theirs, but I lost track of everything they releasing after that.

and although it is one of the most overplayed New Wave songs ever, I Melt With You is awesome.

I've always told people that Modern English is so much more than, 'Melt With You.' I always say, "Do yourself a favor and learn the rest of the songs."

Totally agree....so many other great songs like Chapter 12, Someone's Calling, Hands Across the Sea, Blue Waves, Heart, After the Snow, etc. Ricochet Days is an excellent LP.
