Hey all,

anyone have any knowledge of classic new wave songs originally used in the series Square Pegs that didn't make it to the DVD because of licensing? Been home sick and rewatched the whole series, and here's what I can say for sure was kept in the DVD:

1) Josie Cotton's "He Could Be The One" (announced on the radio station by Marshall)
2) I Know What Boys Like and Square Pegs on the episode on which the Waitresses appear.
3) That's Good and We Are DEVO on the episode on which Devo appears.
4) Several songs from Berlin's Pleasure Victim EP are featured very obviously in the final episode of the series.

I also know that Christmas Wrapping played during the Christmas episode originally, although I didn't hear it on the DVD, which is odd, considering they obtained the rights for the other Waitresses songs. And in the Bill Murray episode, they danced to Billy Idol's "Dancing with Myself" originally, but on the DVD, a different song is dubbed in--a much SLOWER song and it looks ridiculous because all the kids are clearly dancing to the tempo of Billy Idol's song.

Here are some interesting comparisons someone made on a message board comparing the official DVD release and a DVD set that was taken from original TV airings (referred to as "unbox"). The writer couldn't identify every song, but a good number of them. "Grease" refers to the name of the diner in the show.

EP 01 - outside before dance, Unbox version has a B-52's song playing
EP 02 - inside Grease @ 17:20, short song is different
EP 10 - song in opening scene @ Grease is different
EP 11 - song in Grease @ 21:30, Unbox has "Christmas Wrapping" (which goes along with the story, Patty and Lauren not being able to go to X-mas parties/ hang out together)
EP 13 - song in hallway @ 16:00 different, DVD's have what sounds like a Cars song
EP 14 - song in Grease @ 4:07, Unbox has "Hot in the City" by Billy Idol (it's also louder in the mix than the song on the DVD)
EP 14 - song in Grease @ 12:10 is different, both very low in mix
EP 16 - song in Grease @ 9:18, Unbox has "White Wedding" by Billy Idol
EP 16 - song in Grease @ 16:35, "White Wedding" again
EP 16 - song in Grease @ 22:28, "White Wedding" again (goes along with the episodes story & what Muffy says)
EP 17 - song in Grease @ 10:18 is different, familiar song but I can't place it, very low in mix
EP 17 - Song in Grease @ 13:00, Unbox has "Dancing With Myself" (goes along with the scene and story, Patty and Lauren divided over which teacher is "best")
EP 18 - song in Grease @ 5:00, Unbox has "Metro" by Berlin
EP 18 - background music behind dream montage @ 16:00, unbox has a "jazzy" "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" (which goes with the scene and story)
