To my surprise, the warbly voiced singer who had a smash hit with the saccharine filled "The Lady In Red" back in the 80s, hasn't been resting on his laurels. He has a new single coming out (free download at http://www.cdeb.com/maindex.html) and a website full of merchandise for you to purchase. He'll be touring Europe for the next two years.

His last album features covers of "Turn, Turn, Turn", "The Long And Winding Road", "Africa", "Blackbird", "We Can Work It Out", "All Along The Watchtower" and "American Pie". I wanted to goof on them but after sampling them, other than the wimpy "Sealed With A Kiss", they're not bad. And no revamping of that crappy, overplayed, Adult Contemporary radio staple that made him famous in the first place (thanks a lot Mom).

Now if only we could get The Jets, Chico De Barge, Peabo Bryson and Rupert Holmes to step up their game...

to be honest Lady In Red is a good song, maybe a guilty pleasure, but I like it

you know who else is still around doing new albums and concerts mostly in Germany and Eastern Europe, Chris Norman.... remember his duet with Suzi Quatro, Stumblin In??..... I surely do [:D]

I always liked his song High On Emotion... I recall some interview at the time he said it was about the birth of his daughter Rosanna, according to his wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_de_Burgh she won the Miss World competition in 2003 for Ireland, interesting factoid.

Around the time "The Lady In Red" came out I knew someone who was a major Chris DeBurgh fan and had all of his records. Evidently DeBurgh's early 70's stuff was of the "prog-rock/sword and sorcery" variety and my friend was really into early Genesis, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer and bands of that ilk. I remember that he was furious when "The Lady In Red" became a huge hit and was calling DeBurgh every bit the sell out that Phil Collins was.

I didn't know much about prog outside of Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull so I just smiled and agreed with him to make him happy.
