One of my (rest her soul)favorite female artists. Self Control is a classic along with others. Get the new remastered release CD + DVD (promo videos) at her official website. Mine is on the way. Sold only from the website.

> Sold only from the website.

It is a South African release, so it is not exclusive to the website (although it might be the best/easiest place to buy it from, especially if you are in North America).

Yes, you may want to take note of the fact that the DVD is in PAL format only. Will not play on stand alone NTSC (North American) DVD players. Non issue for most techies here.

Just delete your post and I'll do the same, so we all can start the healing process and pretend this never happened.

it's beyond me why her catalog of albums has not been reissued with bonus tracks consisting of 12" mixes and the myriad of soundtrack songs she recorded throughout the 80s. I was sure her passing would have pushed such.

Laura Branigan was a guilty pleasure of the 80s, probably best known for the smash hit "Gloria". She had a good voice but much of her best known material was emotionally overwrought, heartache tripe sang over a pop track with cheesy synths and drum machines. Think of her as the female Michael Bolton.

Kind of like Toya only with talent. Now please don't ask who Hall & Oates are.

PS If you want a chuckle check out Branigan's cover of The Who's "Squeezebox".

original of Gloria was by Italian pop singer/songwriter Umberto Tozzi, imho a great artist (and I do not even speak Italian)...

original of Self Control was by Italo disco and pop star Raf...who still releases pop songs but now only in Italian [:D]

If we're reaching for New Wave Cred for Ms. Branigan, she covered Alphaville's "Forever Young" and did a nice cover of "Der Kommisar" ("Deep In the Dark").

The Raf version of "Self Control" is priceless, love the video, like it more than the Laura Branigan cut (probably because I haven't seen it as much).

Additionally, Giancarlo Bigazzi and Steve Piccolo, along with Raf co-wrote the song "Self Control".
