i love OMD and gary numan. but can hardly listen to ultravox or visage.
some of my absolute favorite bands ever are the sound, blue in heaven, the units, the nuns, the screamers and no one i know has ever heard of any of them.
im tired of it i just want to like the same crao everyone else likes so i can stop being frustrated.

You shouldn't look at it that way. It should provide you a warm feeling of smug superiority that your friends' tastes are crap...and that so is Japan. [:o)]

[/quote]So educate us with some links (youtube, etc.). Ok, there are quite a few fans of The Sound, but I'm not familiar with those other bands.

or maybe the Fucking Shitbiscuits. But then again they never did a recording, didn't believe in it. Played live only with chicken wire up between the stage and audience. Encourged people to toss things at them and played in the buff. Is that what your talking about??

im not talking about these forums or trying to sound like i know music other dont. im talking about my normal friends in the world who are familiar with basic top 40 music. i live in and grew up in oklahoma there werent any cool radio stations or clubs or anything here.
im also talking about just wishing i could like more. after a couple thousand spins of the first duran album you start to wish there was another one you could listent to sometimes but the others dont even come close for me.

It does as to a certain extent as when you talk to your friends who are also into the early 80s it means to them artists like Joy Division, Gary Numan, The Smiths and other bland rubbish of that nature. Mention to them bands you're really into like Toeeon, Unknown Gender or Marek Bilinski and you might as well be talking in another language.
Blir is right it certainly does do that [:D] but it would be nice to communicate once in a while.

Maybe not a great example, but The Red House Painters (aka Red House Painters 1, or the rollercoaster album) is such a great record of a particular sound and tempo that I have almost no interest in owning anything else in their catalog.

Most people on here have shit taste in music and those that don't hate their own taste in music I'm more than happy to do it for them.

ive also noticed the bands i really love are also bands that usually have 3 albums or less. some have never even actually had real abums.
where as bands that are long time staples and have been around a long time and had lots of albums i usually dont like past a few songs. all these bands have a handful of songs i like but can never get into whole albums. siouxsie&banshees, depeche mode, madonna, buahuas. cant think of more at the moment. u2 and the cure are the same except they both have 1 album i actually like outside of maybe 5 or 6 other songs. considering the amount of new bands i have liked in the last 25 years or so i can probably count on half a hand it would just be nice to like more of the popular old stuff.

The Sound are one of my all-time faves and really like Blue In Heaven...other faves many haven't heard of include Comsat Angels, Sad Lovers and Giants and The Chameleons - all superb A-grade music - and Abecedarians, For Against, Savage Republic, New Model Army, Gang of Four, Killing Joke...the list goes on really...
