Wow. With influences like that one might almost make the mistake of thinking of him as a New Wave artist but we all know what a misconception that would be.

we love our Dolls...Morrissey was also fascinated by Wayne County as I recall..

Fascinating that he picks a lot of the same albums that David Sylvian did back in the 80s (you'd get a different list now), and they both used those influences in totally different ways.

many of the listed artists, who had emerged from the early 70s Max's Kansas City in NYC, represented a gay-centric freedom and liberation,and it was this,I think, the spirit,that inspired Morrissey,the sense of abandon,and not the sound or style of the music itself,as none of the 'new wave' had any of the 'dirt' and 'hardness' of the downtown new york rockers..
it was spirit, attitude,at the end of the day...
