Blanket of Secrecy
Posted: Tue Jan 04, 2005 9:14 amI didn't want to enter into the discussion of the legality or morality of MikeP's NWO SoW 200 mp3 compilation but I did want to comment on the contents.
What a treasure trove! Dozens upon dozens of good to great songs that I haven't heard before, with a few I already have in my collection and, best yet at least two that I heard and liked back in the day but had completely forgotten.
The fist of the latter category is "Say You Will" by Blanket of Secrecy. I think it got a bit of radio airplay around here, but I'd completely forgotten it. BoS has no entry in the online Trouser Press Guide. Check out their unusual entry at allmusic.com - their name is very fitting.
The other until-recently-forgotten gem was Tim Scott's "Swear" which a friend once put on a long-lost tape for me. Good song, even if the guitar riff sounds like it was stolen from "Beat It".
I've been collecting songs I liked when I was young for several years now, so the euphoric experience of hearing something again after decades has passed doesn't come very often anymore. And I still haven't listened to nearly all the stuff on the discs. Lots to look forward to.
