If anyone could reasonably attempt to fill Stuart's shoes it would be his friend Mike Peters. I'd love to see one of these shows.

Unfortunately, Mike does [i]not[/i] have anywhere near the guitar chops to fill Stuart's shoes. In that regard, I'd say that Mike is not even worthy enough to fold Stuart's cold socks. And I say that as a former fanatic of the Alarm (seen 'em live many times). Technology can help overcome the guitar part. His vocals might work well, though.

If Mike could just mend ways with his old bandmates, a reformed Alarm would probably be as big as a reformed Big Country. Or maybe they could merge the bands into [b]Alarm Country[/b] (or perhaps [b]The Big Alarm[/b]). With all the Tea Party nuttiness over here, the Alarm's frontier/revolutionary schtick might net them some gigs at political rallies.

My sister-in-law went to see the Alarm (with only Mike from the original band) last night in Foxboro MA. I'll have to find out how that was.

I'll agree with that-which may be why we they have two lead guitarists to pick up the slack. I was mostly referring to Mike's ability to fill in as lead vocalist.

I saw both bands a couple of times back in the day--both among the best concerts I've ever been to.

This could be interesting. They were two of my favorite bands throughout the 80s, but I never would have imagined this twist.

I agree that Stuart's guitar playing is going to awfully hard to make up for; anyone who's seen him live knows what a passionate, amazing player he was. He and Bruce Watson complimented eachother perfectly.

I love The Alarm and Big Country but this is just a mess.

My Big Country story though, I saw them May 30th (1983 or 84) at Graham Central Station in Phoenix. BJ Hunter was a big time DJ here in Arizona and his girlfriend was all over me at this concert (they opened for English Beat). I will never forgive Big Country, they did something I had never before seen before or since: They opened AND closed with In A Big Country. No, I didn't leave with BJ Hunters GF either. [xx(]
